Not sure what's going on? Here's an explanation for you.

The Premise- The basic idea is to draft a team of some of the all-time greatest European quidditch players to play together and win a hypothetical fantasy tournament. The draft and tournament will follow a similar format to the one used by the Eighth Man but with a few adjustments. All players who have ever played competitive quidditch for a club team in Europe are eligible to be drafted onto one of 8 teams with 16 roster spots up for grabs on each team. 8 General Managers (GMs) will be charged with the task of drafting the best possible team. They are able to select any player in their prime for their team, allowing for players who have retired or sustained career-altering injuries to participate. In this hypothetical scenario, the tournament would be played under the IQA 2018-2020 Rulebook and each team would be given a month to train, build chemistry, create tactics and strategies and bring players up to scratch with current rules. GMs are expected to select a roster that complies with the gender rule used in the IQA Rulebook and designate a captain and coach. GMs don't automatically have themselves selected on their team and can be drafted as a player by another team.

The Draft- The draft will be in a snake draft format with the order determined randomly. GMs will be expected to draft 3 players each week across 5 weeks to form their roster except for the first week when GMs will select 4 players. In the final week of the draft, the GMs will also designate one of their rostered players to act as their coach and one of them to act as their captain.

Draft broadcast- There will be a weekly Draft broadcast in which the draft picks will be revealed to the public while a panel of analysts give their live reactions to each pick as it happens and make other observations about the teams as they're being built. The first Draft Broadcast is scheduled for 8:30PM GMT on Thursday 23rd July, more details are to follow on the Total Quidditch. facebook page. We're still looking for some more analysts to make an appearance on the Draft Broadcast in the upcoming weeks so if you'd be interested in joining us, even if it's just for a week, please fill in this form- https://forms.gle/YrNRYN3q3DAy6L4w5

The Winner- The winner will be decided via a public vote and a judges vote. Following the conclusion of the draft, each GM will be given the opportunity to write a short piece to justify their selections and persuade voters why they should vote for their team. The team who is most popular with our judges and the general public will be crowned All-Time European Fantasy Fantasy Champions.

Sounds good, right? So, who will be drafting the teams?

Well... see for yourself.

Meet The GMs

Amund Kulsrud Storruste- Norway

Hi, I'm Amund Kulsrud Storruste, Norwegian beater, chaser, seeker and coach. I joined the quidditch hypetrain when the sport blossomed in Europe back in 2012, and I've stuck around ever since. I've been both an active player and coach since I started and my last 5 years have been spent coaching and playing for NTNUI Rumpeldunk in Trondheim, Norway.
So far in my career, my most notable accomplishments are 2 European Games bronze medals with Norway, 5 consecutive Norwegian championship victories, and beating Paris Titans to knock them out of the 2017 European Quidditch Cup.
I'm looking forward to giving some well deserved praise to the European talent that might've gotten left out in the Eighth Man's All-Time draft. Heyoo, let's go!

Andrew Hull- UK

“The beardy fella” (Sam Davies’ Dad, 2014). In September I will have been playing Quidditch for 8 years having started at Bangor University back in the early days of quidditch in the UK, when capes were still something you wore and quidcrush was considered a banger. I’ve been lucky enough to play on some great teams in that time and have won the British Quidditch Cup twice as well as winning three Northern Titles with Velociraptors QC and one Southern Cup with Oxford's Radcliffe Chimeras. For the last two years, I’ve been living and playing in Australia and again played with some great teams coming fourth with Whomping Willows QC and then second with Melbourne Manticores at QUAFL (Australian national championships) as well as second at State Shield with the Victorian Leadbeaters. I’ve also represented the UK on six occasions including the European Games triumph in 2017 and Bronze medal run in the 2016 World Cup. Proudest Moment – Being named third best keeper in the world (Quidditch Post) Most Shameful Moment – That miss from a foot out in the final of BQC.

Glenn Bellégou- Belgium

I am Glenn, I have been playing for the Ghent Gargoyles for about 4 years now. Started off pretty s**t but now we here. We managed to get 13th place twice at the European Quidditch Cup in 2018 & 2019 although I feel we could've finished higher. I don't have a lot of personal accolades. A few Belgium Cup silver medals trying to defeat the legendary Antwerp Quidditch and one silver medal from European Games 2019 with the Belgian Gryffins. I got best snitch catch at the yearly Gargoyle awards so you might say that is my greatest achievement.

I have been playing for 6 years now, in that time I have played internationally for Team UK winning Bronze at World Cup 2016 and Gold at European Games 2017 as well as assistant and head coaching TeamUK from 2017-2019. Domestically, I am one of the most successful club coaches in UK having won 2 Golds and a Bronze at the British nationals with Velociraptors QC, 5 Northern regional golds (1 with Nottingham Nightmares, 4 with Velociraptors QC) as well as player/coaching/managing 2 QPL franchises (West Midlands Revolution & East Midlands Archers) to championship wins in 2017 & 2019 respectively. Outside of playing, I am the founder of Back2Hoops an online resource designed to support teams and player development. In addition, I am the lead tutor for Level Up, an initiative designed to improve the quality of coaching in the quidditch community. My team will be looking to play a highly aggressive 2-4-1 style of quidditch, looking to outscore our opposition across the game.

At club level I’ve been playing quidditch for the past 7 years, first setting up the Nottingham University team, the Nottingham Nightmares, (2 time European bronze medalists, regionals 1 time Northern regional champion) and then going on to help found and coach Velociraptors QC (2 time British Quidditch Cup champions, 4 time Northern regional champions). I’ve also been playing for the UK national team since 2015, winning European Games gold in 2017 and silver in 2015 and bronze at World Cup 2016. As well as playing for all these teams, I’ve at various points played a role in the coaching staff of all of them. I've also won two Quidditch Premier League championships with both the West Midlands Revolution and East Midlands Archers.
As well as beating, I’m hoping to move into keeping in future women’s leagues after winning keeper MVP at Queen’s cup 2019.
Outside of quidditch I’m part of the England Dodgeball training squad and have a job as a data analyst.

Michele Clabassi- Italy

I was one of the people who brought quidditch to Italy between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, earning the nickname of father/grandfather of Italian quidditch. I've been involved in volunteer work at national and international level with the AIQ, IQA, and Quidditch Europe from 2012 to 2018, in too many different positions to list them all. I've also been a certified referee, either IQA or USQ, with every rulebook since Rulebook 6, but my reffing days are much less frequent and less busy nowadays! I played - as chaser/beater/backup backup keeper - from 2012 to 2018 with the Milano Meneghins, on Team Italy at European Games 2015, World Cup 2016 (as playing coach), and European Games 2017, then moved to Boston where I played one season with QC Boston and one with Revolution Quidditch.

Stein Elgethun- Norway
Photo Credit: Norges Rumpldunkforbund (Petter Elstad)

My name is Stein Elgethun, I am Norwegian, 22 years old and I have played quidditch for almost 7 years. I have won the national championship in both Norway (with NTNUI Rumpeldunk) and France (with Paris Titans), gone to the European Quidditch Cup 5 times (with both NTNUI Rumpeldunk and OSI Vikings) and played for the Norwegian national team at all 3 European Games and at the last 2 World Cups. For most of my career, I have been beating, but recently started keeping as well.
I helped set up the Norwegian NGB and became president last year. I also like to referee, and usually try to get at least a few games in whenever I play in a tournament.

Draft Order- On Monday of this week, the draft lottery took place to determine the order in which the GMs will make their picks. Here are the results:

1st- Stein Elgethun
2nd- James Thanangadan
3rd- Lucy Quidditch
4th- Amund Kulsrud Storruste
5th- Glenn Bellégou
6th- Andrew Hull
7th- Lore Badts
8th- Michele Clabassi

This means that Stein will have the pleasure of the first overall pick in the draft. This will be the order of the draft in the odd numbered rounds then the order reverses for the even numbered rounds meaning that Michele will have the first pick in the second round.
With 10 European players being chosen in the All-Time draft, it's exciting to see what teams our GMs will construct and which talents we get to celebrate as some of the greatest quidditch players from the continent. Make sure you follow the coverage of the draft on here as well as on our facebook page and most importantly, vote for your favourite team at the end of the draft and help decide which GM will emerge victorious in this all-continent quidditch battle of the minds. An entertaining few weeks are ahead of us!
