Match Analysis: European Games 2019 3rd place match- Germany vs United Kingdom

Image
Hello there! While the world is under Coronavirus lockdown and sadly no quidditch is currently being played, let's revisit one of the games from 2019's European Games in Bamberg, Germany. Honestly, European Games 2019 isn't a tournament I've really given much thought about since it happened. I was away at summer camp in the US at the time, almost entirely unplugged from the outside world so mentally I feel very disconnected from it but I guess now is as good a time as any to dive into some of the game footage available online. Special shout-outs to my friends Amund and James (UK coach for this tournament) for requesting this article, I hope they enjoy it just as much as the rest of you. Remember, if you would like me to do analysis on a specific game, please leave a message in the comment section here or on the facebook page (with a url link to the footage) and I will take it into consideration. Of the matches I've watched, this is one of the more entertaining o...

Match Analysis- QUAFL 2018 Grand Final: Melbourne Manticores vs USyd Unspeakables

Image
Hi there, since their World Cup victory in 2016, I've quite enjoyed occasionally following the Australian quidditch scene. As someone who watches from afar many thousands of miles away, there seems to be obvious sporting talent and depth across all genders, a healthy yet determined competitive attitude towards the sport and what excites me most- unpredictability. Unlike quidditch played in the UK or in other European nations, there appears to be constant competition between a large amount of teams in Australia with multiple in-range games. Dropbears (Australian national team) players are spread across numerous teams rather than clustered in one or two 'super teams' which makes their national tournament (QUAFL) genuinely entertaining year after year. Now that film from the QUAFL 2018 Grand Final has become available (Thank you very much Ajantha Abey and Quidditch Australia!), I decided it was time to take a trip down under and have a stab at analysing some Aussie footage. ...

Match Analysis- EQT 2019 Semi-Final: London QC vs Velociraptors QC

Image
In the semi-final of January's European Qualifier Tournament (EQT), Three-time Northern Cup champions Velociraptors QC faced off against newly formed community team London QC, runners up at this season's Southern Cup. A new addition to the QUK calendar, EQT 2019 was a 12 team tournament comprising of 5 teams from the QUK North Region and 7 from the QUK South Region who battled it out for the 6 UK spots in the European Quidditch Cup (EQC) Division 1 tournament and 2 UK spots in the European Quidditch Cup Division 2 tournament which are to be held in May and April respectively. Having already secured their spots in EQC Division 1, London QC (LQC) and Velociraptors QC (Raptors) had their second encounter of the season following LQC's shock out of range win at Battle Royale III in October with the winner gaining a guaranteed first seed for EQC and a spot in the final to play Werewolves of London. Despite trailing by a 50 point margin at one point, Raptors leveled the season se...

Match Analysis- Southern Cup Final 2018: London QC vs Werewolves of London

Well, here goes nothing. To get the ball rolling, I'm gonna start TQ off with my thoughts on the Southern Cup Final 2018. Of the two UK regions, the Southern final has always been a much closer affair than any Northern final down the years and this season was a cross-city derby between London Quidditch Club (Abbreviated to LQC for the rest of this article) and Werewolves of London (Abbreviated to WoL for the rest of this article), widely regarded as two of the clear front runners for April's British Quidditch Cup. Naturally, this feels like a good way to begin this venture into the unknown.
